An epic of 70s made-for-television multiple-personalities psychotherapeutics: Daniel Petrie’s Sybil. One night only, Sunday June 16, 6:00. ON 16MM!
Eerie new poster by Maya Edelman!

This movie is totally bananas. In a win for CA public high school education, my AP Psychology teacher had us watch this movie to keep us busy for 3 days to show us an accurate example of multiple personality disorder.
I also recall watching Cool Hand Luke in that class, which…I can’t argue with that. One of my favorite movies, educational value be damned.
(At least that’s better than watching the Friends finale in AP Biology? Because yes, that happened.)
That same teacher also couldn’t understand why all those poor people who died in Hurricane Katrina didn’t just DRIVE away in their CARS, dummies.

Love this idea. Wonder if an NYC version would work.

But I don’t think we have as many MTA sleepers here.

Alma – A tale of violence

meralagish:

A webdocumentary by Miquel Dewever-Plana & Isabelle Fougère

“For 5 years Alma has been a member of one of Guatemala’s most brutal gangs, a country today ravaged by an unnamed war. She tells her confession face to face. Alma’s testimony is unique. The young woman’s words open onto images of her memories, of daily life in Guatemala, and of gang subculture.”

Saw some of this in an Interactive Storytelling workshop at Union Docs a few months ago. Alma, a former member of one of Guatemala’s most violent gangs, tells her story in a unique interactive concept where the user chooses between a face to face experience and Alma’s recollections.

“Right now we live in an age where there’s an abundance of beautiful imagery around us so the point is not any longer to produce beautiful images, but necessary ones.”

I’d always heard that ducks had corkscrew penises, but I’d never taken the time to imagine how vulnerable and kind of sweet they look. Thank you, New York Times, for showing me the most innocent little octopus-tentacle sex organ in the land.

Not gonna lie - ever since this Radiolab story I have thought about duck penises at least once a day:

Amazon Storyteller launches in beta, creates a storyboard automatically from uploaded movie scripts - The Next Web

Amazon is looking to nurture the next generation of scriptwriters, directors and cinematographers with a new, free online tool called Amazon Storyteller, which helps convert initial scripts into dynamic and professional storyboards.
The project is currently in beta, but can automatically identify scenes, locations and characters from a script that has been uploaded to Amazon Studios, the company’s division for developing exclusive movies, comics and television shows. It then “casts” these objects from a library of assets that includes “thousands” of characters, props and backgrounds.
The storyboard can then be published to Amazon Studios, where other users can check it out and leave feedback.

It’s like memegenerator for movies.

Whoa.
